BANGKOK, Aug 7, 2026 (AFP) – The death toll from Thursday’s school shooting in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province rose to seven, according to local media on Friday, with authorities yet to officially confirm the revised figure.

The shooting took place at Debsirin Nonthaburi School on Thursday, with emergency responders confirming that the casualties had increased compared to earlier reports, Thai Enquirer reported.

Police identified the suspected shooter as a student at the school, the report said.

The shooting began at about 10.12 am (0312GMT) on the sixth floor of the school’s building 5. The student, suspected to be the shooter, reportedly turned the gun on himself after the attack and died, it added.

Teachers evacuated students and staff from the campus as the shooting unfolded, moving them away from the affected area.

Authorities reportedly recovered dozens of rounds of ammunition from a bag belonging to the suspected shooter, Thai Enquirer also reported.

Emergency personnel attempted to resuscitate the student, who was later pronounced dead.

Two more bodies were found at the home of the suspected shooter — the shooter’s grandparents, who are believed to have been shot before the school attack, according to the report.

Police secured the school following the attack and launched an investigation into the circumstances and possible motive behind the shooting.

The Poh Teck Tung Foundation, a Bangkok-based rescue organization, said ambulances were transporting injured students to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The foundation also urged motorists in the area to clear roads and allow emergency vehicles unobstructed access to and from the school.

Nonthaburi province lies immediately northwest of the Thai capital Bangkok, and forms part of the wider Bangkok metropolitan region.
