Dhaka, Aug 17, 2026 (AFP) – A mild earthquake was felt in Dhaka and several surrounding areas early Monday (17 August).
The earthquake measured 3.0 on the Richter scale.
According to meteorologists at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the earthquake occurred at 5:32am. The epicentre was in the Shibpur area of Narsingdi, about 47 kilometres northeast of Dhaka.
The Meteorological Department also confirmed in a bulletin that the earthquake originated at a depth of around 10 kilometres below the surface.
Although the tremor was mild, it woke many people and caused some panic in the early morning. However, no casualties or damage have been reported anywhere in the country so far.
