DHAKA, Feb 12, 2026 (TNB) – Home Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd) today said the election is being held in a fair and festive atmosphere, except for one or two minor isolated incidents.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after casting his vote at Baridhara Scholars International School and College polling centre at DOHS Baridhara in the capital at 10am.

The adviser expressed determination that the election would be conducted in a free, fair, peaceful, acceptable and festive environment.

Results will be accepted if election is free, neutral: Tarique Rahman

He underscored the important role of journalists in ensuring that the national election remains free, fair and acceptable, noting that factual reporting has resisted misinformation and propaganda from neighbouring countries.

“If journalists publish factual news during the national election, rumours and propaganda can be prevented,” he said, expressing hope that the media would present accurate and objective news throughout the polls.

Later, the adviser visited the central law and order coordination cell of the Home Ministry and the operation control room of Police Headquarters.
